Our Story
The Story Behind Camellia Golf
Golf is a great metaphor for life.
There’s good and bad. Highs and lows. Moments of confidence, and moments of fear.
There are good bounces that make you smile, and bad breaks that stick with you.
There are decisions you regret, and escapes so amazing you’ll talk about them for years.
How we handle adversity on the course often mirrors how we respond to adversity in life.
I played for years as the guy who threw clubs, got genuinely upset, and carried every mistake with me. But over time, I learned something (sometimes still learning) that changed me: the ups and downs are what make this game fun.
If every golf course were a wide open, manicured fairway with no hazards and greens the size of Texas… sure, we’d score better!
But would we love it?
Would it even feel like golf?
Of course not. This game is a game of mistakes, misses, and imperfections.
It’s the recovery shots, the unlikely saves, the creativity under pressure.
Those are the moments we remember forever.
And within that chaos is something priceless—the ability to find happiness and enjoyment on the course.
When a bad shot hits a retaining wall and somehow kicks back into the fairway… It’s Fine!
When you thin an iron over the water, skip it across, and it stays dry… It’s Fine!
When your approach is so offline that it sits at the bottom of a tree, and you have to swing while hugging a tree… It’s Fine!
We forget how much of a privilege this game really is:
The chance to be outside.
The time with our best friends.
The laughs, the trash talk, the celebrations.
The moments we’ll remember and retell for years.
Camellia Golf was founded on one belief:
Having a next shot is a gift.
The last swing may not have gone where you wanted—but it’s in play.
You get another chance.
Another opportunity to create something amazing.
That’s the spirit we carry into everything we design:
Optimistic.
Balanced.
Easygoing.
For the love of the game.
Because at the end of the day…
It’s Fine!
Why We Named It Camellia
Choosing our name wasn’t difficult.
All we had to do was think about what makes us happy—and where that happiness comes from.
For us, the answer was home.
Sacramento. The Camellia City. California’s capital.
The state where both my wife and I were born, and the place we chose to return to after years in Arizona to raise our son.
And then there’s Camellia Street—the street we call home today.
Those roots, that sense of belonging, that everyday joy… it all aligned.
The name wasn’t just fitting—it felt inevitable.
Camellia Golf is a reminder of where we come from, what matters most, and doing all of that together.
